Love INC ministries impact nearly 4,000 individuals across more than 1,300 household every year. Here are all the ways we do so.
Our Community Clearinghouse is at the heart of Love INC’s ministries. Staff and volunteers in the Clearinghouse receive phone calls from neighbors in need, conduct an interview to understand their situation, and connects people with the ministries and services that exist in the community to help.
Love INC’s Community Food Pantry is one of our most visited ministries. Neighbors can make an appointment twice a month for a five-day supply of food for their household. Food Pantry appointments can be made Monday-Thursday. Additional TEFAP (government commodity) distribution takes place on Friday mornings and afternoons, no appointment needed.
SNAP benefits (aka food stamps) help many people make ends meet, but not all necessary items can be purchased with them. Cleaning and hygiene items can be picked up when visiting the Food Pantry once a month.
Loving Neighbors seeks to transform lives of neighbors impacted by poverty by connecting them with an advocate to create goals, determine needs and offer guidance and encouragement. Loving Neighbors aims not only to bring people financial stability, but also to guide them into relational, spiritual and social wholeness.
Cooking With Love
At noon on the first Wednesday of the month, the community is welcome to join us for Cooking With Love in our Food Pantry Nutrition Center. The class offers informative lessons on cooking fresh, healthy meals on a budget and is a great way to get to know your neighbors – even if you’re experienced in the kitchen!
Matthew 25 TeleMedicine Office
Love INC hosts a weekly free health clinic in partnership with Fort Wayne’s Matthew 25. Patient are diagnosed and treated by a doctor connected via teleconference alongside an onsite nurse. Neighbors with non-emergency medical issues can schedule an appointment by calling 260-469-0474.
Covered With Love
Covered with Love is our in-house thrift store. On top of facilitating our Back-To-School program and a clothing voucher program that allows neighbors to receive clothing up to twice a year, it is also open to the public. Proceeds help to fund other Love INC ministries. Covered with Love is open 9:30am-4:00pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 9:00am-12:00pm on Saturdays.
Loads of Love
Getting laundry done is a necessary chore to which not everyone has ready access. Loads of Love gives us the opportunity to meet this need, as well as time to get to know our neighbors and their stories. Neighbors can schedule a time to have a machine activated at JJ’s Washroom once a month per person in their household.
Bare Necessities provides essential goods for the families of newborns and infants, ensuring that our youngest neighbors are provided for. Bare Essentials is housed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church at 648 N LaFontaine Street.
Pet Food Pantry
For many people impacted by poverty, pets offer vital companionship through =times. The Pet Food Pantry is located at First Presbyterian Church at 50 E Tipton Street. Neighbors visiting the pantry can get an allotment of pet food twice a month, as well as the opportunity to be served dinner at the church.
Christmas Gift Shop
The Love INC Christmas gift shop offers parents with children aged 0-18 an opportunity to create a joyful Christmas experience. Hosted at St. Peter’s First Community Church, the shop allows parents to shop for gifts for a small fee so they can provide a happy holiday for their families.
Held annually before the start of the school year, neighbors can register their children for our Back-To-School Program. K-12 students can receive a new backpack and three gently used outfits at no cost to their parents.
